In the past I have always called February 14th Valentine’s Day. It was simple, universal, and to be honest, I had never really thought of calling it anything different. But this year, my friend introduced me to a new name, and I think it is much better than the original. It really captures the true essence of the holiday, and the vast impact it has on our culture. So from now on, February 14th will be known as Men Panicking Day.

For some reason this holiday seems to put pressure on men. If you don’t believe me, go into any candy/cupcake/bake shop on February 14th and just watch. I guarantee there will be more than one man running in for a last minute gift looking very stressed.

In honor of this new name, I decided to make something simple for this special holiday. I took an old recipe and changed it up a little, and it turned out to be great. Whether you are a man or a woman, panicked or calm, these White Chocolate Peanut Butter Truffles are a delicious (and easy) way to impress someone you love. And if they don’t like white chocolate, you can try the dark chocolate version.

Homemade Peanut Butter Pretzel Balls

Quick and Easy DIY Pretzel Balls

Ingredients and Instructions for How To Make Peanut Butter Pretzels

WHITE CHOCOLATE PEANUT BUTTER PRETZEL TRUFFLES

Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 cups crushed pretzels
  • 1 cup creamy peanut butter
  • 2 tbsp butter, softened
  • 4 tbsp brown sugar
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 6 tbsp powdered sugar
  • 2 1/2 cups white chocolate. I would recommend using a good white chocolate, like Ghirardelli. That means no Nestle white chocolate chips – they do not melt very well.

Instructions

  • Put pretzels in a plastic bag and crush into small bits.
  • In a medium bowl, combine peanut butter, butter, brown sugar and salt. Stir until all ingredients are completely blended and smooth.
  • Add pretzel bits to peanut butter mixture and mix thoroughly.
  • Add powdered sugar and, mix thoroughly.
  • Now take a spoonful of the mixture and form into a ball. (If the peanut butter starts sticking to your fingers, run your fingers under cold water, and begin rolling again).
  • Place balls onto a plate or cookie sheet lined with wax or parchment paper. Put into the freezer to chill for at least 20 minutes.
  • After the peanut butter balls have chilled, prepare your chocolate. Put the white chocolate into a small microwaveable bowl. Microwave for 30 seconds and then stir. Then continue this microwave/stir routine at 10 second intervals until the chocolate is completely melted.
  • Place one peanut butter ball into the melted chocolate and gently roll it around with a fork until completely coated. Remove from the bowl with the fork and place onto a sheet of wax or parchment paper. Repeat for all other balls.
  • Once they are all coated, place them back in the freezer for another 20-30 minutes.

DECORATING

    Colored Splatter

    • Use food coloring to dye extra white chocolate the desired color. (Only add a little bit of food coloring at a time. If you add too much it can turn the chocolate hard)
    • Put the colored chocolate back in the microwave for 10 seconds so it is easier to splatter.
    • Dip a spoon into the chocolate and then hold the spoon two inches over the balls and move your hand back and forth.
    • Repeat until you cover all the balls. Place in the refrigerator for another 10-15 minutes.

    Drawing with White Chocolate

    • When white chocolate is runny it is very easy to draw with, and once it is dry it can be used as decorations.
    • Place warm chocolate into a piping bag with a tip (or just draw with the edge of a fork or spoon) and draw whatever you want onto parchment paper.
    • Set aside for at least 15 minutes, and once it is dry you can peel it off the parchment. Flip design over to use the back smooth side and attach the rough side to the truffle with a little dab of melted white chocolate

    Notes

**remember if you are doing letters - draw them backwards!
    *Makes about 18 balls

Apparently, when it rains, it pours. Or in my case, dumps 20 years of dust onto your living room floor. Luckily, everyone is fine and my ceiling is almost back to normal. But over the years I have learned that days like these happen. There is no way of stopping the curveballs life throws at us. The only thing we can control is our reaction to these epically crappy days.

Recently Sara and I took a “How Well Do You Know Your Best Friend” quiz….it turns out, we know each other very very well. I know that her favorite food is broccoli and that if she could move anywhere it would be Bozeman, Montana (even though she has never been there) and she knows that my biggest pet peeve is when people don’t do what they say they are going to do.

For example, when someone says they are not going to pressure you into doing something (cough the guy I went on a date with last week cough), and then turns around and does the exact opposite. This is SUPER annoying to me.

Cactus Oreo Pops | Sprinkles For Breakfast

But for some reason, it happens ALL the time! I just don’t see why it is such a hard concept for people to grasp. Saying that you will be there at 6, or that you will send the paper work in by the end of the day, or that you will call me right back…none of this means anything unless you ACTUALLY DO IT.

Cactus Oreo Pops | Sprinkles For Breakfast

I totally understand circumstances change, and that life can sometimes get in the way – but for the most part, I don’t think doing what you say you are going to do is that big of an ask.

So now, as an example of how it should be done, I will tell you about these Cactus Oreo Pops and then actually give you the recipe.

Cactus Oreo Pops | Sprinkles For Breakfast

These Pops only requires four ingredients – Oreos, melting chocolate, Sprinkles and Cactus Sugars. There is no baking required, they can be done in under 30 minutes, and they are pretty much the cutest things ever!

So next time you say you will bring dessert to a party you have no excuse to show up empty handed!

Last week, I decided it was time to go beyond the marbled cake, and take on America’s favorite cookie – The Oreo. The result was pretty great. There are not many things in this world that can beat a good old fashioned Oreo – but I think these marbled ones come pretty close.

The key is using candy coloring instead of regular food coloring. The regular food coloring is water-based and it will cause the chocolate to seize. Nobody wants that. So make sure you are using an oil-based coloring for these Oreos!

I just had friends from Germany come visit, and their time here reminded me how INSANE Americans are. In Europe they take time to sit down and enjoy what they are eating and who they are eating with. They make a point to soak up every second of their experiences while Americans are over here like I am going to need that sandwich to go. Then I am going to eat it in the car on the way to the next things I have to do while also answering emails and making phone calls. Americans never sit down and just enjoy. It’s GO GO GO all the time.

Our American insaneness seems to go into overdrive during the Holiday Season. With presents to wrap, parties to attend, people to cook for, this time of year leaves you little time to do the things you want to do. Like for example, baking adorable cookies. But you still need to being something to the cookie swap/holiday party/office gathering! So what are you going to do?!

Reindeer Oreos | Sprinkles For Breakfast

Well I have a solution for you…Reindeer Oreos.

Quick and easy no bake cookies that are super cute! It will allow you to get those creative juices flowing without taking up TOO MUCH of your time. And even better – everyone is going to be super impressed with how cute they are! It’s a win/win!

Oh, and I know everyone says Santa’s Reindeer are a bunch of boys…but I like to think that the girl reindeers are bad ass’s as well. So I made them all girls. But obviously you can skip the bow and save yourself even more time.

How to Make Homemade Confetti Oreos

I like Oreos. I would even go as far as to say they should be a staple in any American Household. They are great in packed lunches, go well with milk or peanut butter, and can be used in numerous sweet and delicious recipes. (See Buzzfeed’s 22 Mouthwatering ways to Eat An Oreo for reference). Overall, Oreos are great. They are milk’s favorite cookie for a reason. But, if I am being honest, which I always like to be honest with you guys, I think the Golden Oreo is better than the original. I know they were only introduced in 2004 (so they are still kind of new), but unlike some of Oreo’s other flavors (cough Banana Split cough) they have stuck around – and that is because they are GOOD. I know saying something is better than the original is serious business – but I am confident with my decision and I am sticking with it. I like Golden Oreos better.

Quick and Easy Confetti Oreos Recipe

In other news, I have been doing some market research lately (pinterest), and I have discovered that sprinkles make everything better. They just make everything cuter and feel more festive. And they just make me happy (as you probably could have guessed from my blog named). So I decided to take some Golden Oreos and give them a little Sprinkles for Breakfast makeover. This recipe is super easy, and does not require any kind of skill (or oven). Basically, they are the perfect accent to any party because you can customize your colors any way you want – and they are adorable! And I guess, if you want, you can use regular Oreos too – but I stand by what I said, and I really think you should give the Golden Oreo a try.
